Harnessing Disruption: NEP 4.0 Immerses in AI, Data, and Strategic Foresight
02 Sep 2025

From space technology to real-world AI applications, NEP 4.0’s Module 8, held in collaboration with MBZUAI and Emirates Foundation, delivered an incisive dive into the disruptive forces shaping the UAE’s future. Over three days, the cohort tackled the promise and responsibility of emerging technologies—translating complexity into strategic foresight.

Day 1 of the module culminated in a powerful session at Space42, where the CEO, H.E. Ali Al Hashemi, offered a glimpse into the UAE’s ambitions in satellite innovation and spatial intelligence—setting the tone for a week focused on transformation at scale.

The momentum carried through hands-on sessions at MBZUAI, where experts unpacked the fundamentals of AI, from data science and machine learning to ethical frameworks for responsible innovation. A key highlight was the site visit to MBZUAI’s Data Observatory and Research Lab, which bridged theory with applied science. This set the stage for the Demo Spotlight featuring Ahmad Alsuwaidi (Energy & Renewables sector) and Maryam AlFalasi (Food Security sector), who explored sectoral disruption through AI-powered lenses.

The final day convened high-impact voices in the NEP Speaker Series, including “Leading with Purposeful AI”—a session moderated by H.E. Dr. Abdulla Al Shimmari, NEP 3.0 Fellow and Executive Director, National Talent Enablement, Department of Government Enablement, featuring Dr. Andrew Jackson, Group Chief AI Officer, G42, and Dr. Najwa Araj, CEO, Technology Innovation Institute. Their dialogue unpacked the UAE’s dual imperative: global competitiveness and ethical governance.

The day concluded with the final presentations of the National Priority Journeys, including standout contributions in national identity and sustainability. It also featured an address from Khaled Al Shamlan, CEO, Real Assets, Mubadala, who emphasized future-proof investments as a national resilience strategy.

Module 8 confirmed: understanding disruption is not enough. NEP experts are learning how to harness it.
