BLOG: The NEP Experience

Thirty-two Emirati experts officially began their journey in the National Experts Program – Artificial Intelligence (NEP-AI), embarking on a seven-month leadership track designed to strengthen the UAE’s national AI capabilities and advance the country’s strategic priorities.

The cohort, which represents the largest and most geographically and age-diverse group in the history of the NEP, brought together participants from six emirates and a broad range of sectors.

NEP-AI was launched to prepare Emirati experts to harness the power of artificial intelligence in shaping the UAE’s future. Aligned with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, the program combines technical knowledge, leadership development, mentorship, and applied learning to help participants translate AI opportunities into tangible national impact.

The opening module established a common foundation around the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, AI governance frameworks, and national sector priorities. 

A defining feature of NEP-AI is the Capstone Project, through which participants identify real challenges within their sectors and organizations and develop practical AI solutions with measurable outcomes. Through these projects, participants will explore how AI can strengthen decision-making, enhance public services, improve competitiveness, and unlock new economic opportunities.

As the cohort continues its seven-month journey, participants are building on the knowledge and relationships established during the opening module. Their work over the coming months will help shape AI implementation across key sectors and contribute to advancing the UAE’s long-term ambitions in artificial intelligence and innovation.
