The growing profiles of two National Experts Fellows as recognized experts in the fields of environment and energy are evident on the cover of the final report of COP28 – The UAE Consensus.
NEP 1.0 Fellow Abdulla Al Remeithi and NEP Fellow 2.0 Omar Al Braiki were on the stage at the conclusion of the 2023 global climate conference in Dubai and are pictured on the cover of the document that captures the achievements and commitments of the UAE Presidency of COP28. Al Remeithi is the Director of Environment Policy, Regulations and Climate Change of the Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi. Al Braiki serves as Deputy Chief Negotiator with the office of the UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change.
In acknowledgement of their significant contributions as part of the UAE’s negotiation team at COP28, Al Remeithi and Al Braiki, along with NE Alumnus Saood Al Noori, were honored in February with the prestigious “First Class Order of Zayed II” award by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
Al Remeithi was busy at COP28 where he also launched the UAE Environmental Identity (UAEEI), a new national project designed to aid consumers in the UAE to reduce carbon emissions. The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) collaborated with National Experts to deliver the project.
Al Braiki continues his work with the UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change as he follows up on the agreements reached at COP28 and prepares the UAE for the next climate summit in Azerbaijan.
His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President, has been a part of the National Experts community for a number of years and has provided outstanding mentorship for NE 2.0 Fellow Ali Alshimmari and NE 3.0 Alumnus Saood Al Noori.
