With 17 years of experience, Sumaya Al Hajeri combines her engineering background with two Master’s degrees in Law and Public Policy to work on technology regulations and policies in the UAE.
Sumaya is the lead of Executive Affairs at the National Projects Office while also a Public Policy Expert with the Etihad Rails CEO’s office, where she focuses on the required railway projects, assurances, and policies.
She previously worked at the AI Office of the Prime Minister’s Office, where she led the Department of Governance and Data, in addition to developing policy briefs related to AI and Digital Economy. Prior to that role, Sumaya worked at the Policy and Regulations Directorate of the UAE Space Agency as Head of Space Policies and Regulations at the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority.
Additionally, Sumaya had the opportunity to lecture at Oxford University with the Department of Continuing Education on AI Public Policy, Strategy and Regulations, and at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi – College of Law, teaching students the UAE legal system and how it compares to the French civil code.
Sumaya holds a Master of Public Policy Analysis from the Mohammed Bin Rashed School of Governance in Dubai and a Master of International Law, Diplomacy and International Relations from the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. She also has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the UAE University and was part of the Space Studies Program at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France. Sumaya is also a doctoral candidate at the Ecole des Ponts – Paris Tech Business School.
