Expert, Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, Ministry of Economy

Mohammed serves as the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Expert at the UAE Ministry of Economy. Prior to this role, he worked as a Financial Sector Expert with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., where he monitored global compliance with AML/CFT regulations and provided technical assistance to enhance effectiveness.  

A certified AML specialist with an international diploma in Anti-Money Laundering from the International Compliance Association, Mohammed’s work at the IMF involved assessing the ability of selected countries to combat financial crimes.

He previously worked as Head of Anti-Money Laundering Supervision at the UAE Ministry of Economy, where he developed monitoring frameworks for companies at risk of exploitation in money laundering or terrorism financing activities. 

Mohammed held various roles at the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) including Senior Manager, Supervision, where he conducted onsite examinations for financial institutions operating within the Dubai International Finance Center (DIFC). He also supported the Director of International Relations by liaising with international regulators, regulatory associations, local authorities and key stakeholders.

He has been a current affairs commentator publishing articles in Gulf News, The National, Al Bayan and Arabian Business. He participated in the Young Economist Program in 2020 after being selected to join the first cohort of the UAE’s development program for economics.

Mohammed holds a Master of Laws in Financial Crime and Money Laundering from the University of Dubai and a Bachelor of Business Administration – Financial Services from the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Campus.

Additionally, Mohammed volunteered as an Elections Coordinator with UAE Federal National Council Elections and at the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs.
