As Programs Manager at the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, Mohamed Alwahedi plays a key role in the strategic planning and performance management of community development projects in the emirate. He also serves as Project Manager for the Medeem initiative and the Emirati Family Growth Program, two of the largest social initiatives in the UAE.
Prior to his current role, he served as Senior Engineer at the National Center of Meteorology (Presidential Court) where he was involved in strategic scientific and technical projects.
Mohamed also serves as Chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Youth Council, guiding the role of the Council as a bridge between youth and decision-makers in the emirate. Previously, he chaired the Sustainable Development Goals National Council for two years, where he led the development of initiatives for national policies on the Sustainable Development Goals and worked to empower youth in advancing the UAE’s commitment to the SDGs.
Additionally, Mohamed was involved with the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists, the primary body representing the UAE’s scientific community, and served as a Youth Delegate to the UAE Permanent Mission to The United Nations from October 2020 to September 2021.
Mohamed’s professional affiliations include being a Certified Fellow with the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (International), a Research Fellow with the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction in London, and a Candidate Fellow with The Geological Society of London.
He holds a Master of Science in Risk and Disaster Science from University College London and a Bachelor of Geophysical Sciences from the University of Leeds.
