Dr. Mohamed currently serves as the Director of the Genome and Biobank Division at the of Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, where he continues to lead the development and execution of the national genome strategy and oversees all genome-related initiatives, including the Emirati Genome Project and Abu Dhabi Biobank. He is responsible for driving precision medicine adoption, building the regulatory and operational framework for gene therapy, and strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a leader in genomic medicine.
In addition to his role at the Department of Health, Dr. Mohamed is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Khalifa University, where he contributes to academic mentorship in the fields of genomics, precision medicine, and gene therapy. He also holds advisory roles with various local and international initiatives, providing strategic input on national genome programs, biobanking, and translational research.
Previously, he served as Section Head for Studies and Special Projects at the Department of Health, and as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, where he focused on diagnosing hematological and oncology diseases, implementing cutting-edge genomic technologies, and monitoring emerging infectious diseases. He has also served as a Teaching Associate in Cell and Gene Therapy, and Personalized Medicine and Novel Therapies at University College London.
Dr. Mohamed is a member of the British Society of Genetic Medicine, the Association of Clinical Genomic Science, and the Cancer Genetics Group. He has coordinated international collaborations such as the International FTD Genomics Consortium and contributed to global scientific events. He has also been actively involved in youth engagement and sustainability initiatives, including Masdar’s Sustainability Youth Council, the COP26 UAE Youth Delegation, and the Emirates Global Youth Council.
Dr. Mohamed holds a PhD in Genetics and Epigenetics of Pediatric Leukemia and a Master’s in Cell and Gene Therapy from University College London, as well as a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Genetics from the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
