Mona Al Marri is a prominent Emirati leader who has made significant contributions to the development of the UAE’s media and strategic communications landscape. She is also a leading advocate for women’s empowerment and their greater participation in national development.
Al Marri holds a number of leadership positions in the media sector. She serves as a Member of the Board of the UAE Media Council, established through a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. She is also the Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Al Marri chairs the Dubai Council for the Future of Media and is a member of the National Experts Programme launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
As the Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, she plays a key role in steering Dubai’s strategic communications narrative. Al Marri serves as the President of the Dubai Press Club, Secretary General of the Arab Media Award, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Arab Media Forum, and Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit. In her role as the Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, Al Marri oversees Dubai Media Incorporated’s strategic development plan and initiatives to increase the local media’s contribution to economic growth. She also currently serves on the Board of the United Arab Emirates University and was a member of the first Board of Dubai Media City established in 2001.
Al Marri’s journey as an advocate for women’s development began in 2003 when H.H. Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum appointed her as the Vice President of the Dubai Ladies Club.
She also led the creation of the Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) in 2006, and is currently the Chairperson of DWE’s Board. In 2015, Al Marri was appointed as the Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council. She has played a significant role in the rapid transformation of the UAE’s gender balance landscape, overseeing initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women.
In acknowledgement of her pioneering roles and professional achievements, Al Marri was named by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2014. She was also named a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council.
